Bob Armitage

Bob and his double bass graduated from the Elder Conservatorium and he has been BMus-ed ever since. Having taught himself electric bass guitar he was also rewarded with a Grad Dip Ed. His musical influences are rooted in the rock, pop and vocal groups of the '60s and he spent a good part of the '70s singing along to The Beatles, Beach Boys & Bacharach. He was often ejected from their concerts for singing too loudly. Early bass influences were Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and King Crimson (one band heavy, the others girly colours). After leaving school - which came before the first two sentences - Bob played in original rock bands Zero Hour ('83-'85) and Die Laughing ('86-'88). In 1989 he joined legendary party band Joe Fish and the Chips with Alan, an association that continued through to 1995. He also plied his bow and BMus playing double bass in amateur orchestras. An 8-year performance hiatus intervened as Bob taught music in London and then returned to real work and starting a family. He is a prolific songwriter and his home-recordings can be found at his own web site: Combobob He sports a '75 Fender Jazz Bass and will - if prompted accidentally - talk endlessly about Brian Wilson, computers or his latest hobby: panoramic photographs. He needs to sell his double bass to pay the Bald Eagles joining fee. Any takers? Bob joins Russell in providing the sweet high harmonies so characteristic of the Eagles' sound.
